Kelly Noonan Training Tips

Kelly Noonan
AGE: 43
HIGHT: 5’ 5” and 1/2
WEIGHT: 130 pounds
OCCUPATION: Group Fitness instructor/ Personal Trainer at the Oahu Club Hawaii. Kai
RESIDENCE: Hawaii (Waimanalo)

I was on the main land not too long ago. I didn’t eaten any fresh vegetable and always had deep fried foods. However, when I moved to the Hawaii to meet my Husband Timothy in 2001, I got married and my life has totally changed. I became a marathon runner in 2002. So far, I have run 10 marathons with my fastest time being 3 hours 38 minutes from the Phoenix AL Rock and Roll marathon in 2006. My healthier exercise routines are running, weight lifting, Tae Kwon Do, stretch and a good diet.

First my exercise is cardiovascular so I run six days a week. I really like running. I know that it keeps me a good shape because it works my cardiovascular system. Usually, I follow my husband’s a running plans. He is a marathon runner and my running coach. I run long distances on Sundays early morning like 12 miles to 16 miles. I rest next day on Mondays. My body has to recover from the long run or otherwise it will break down. Tuesday I am running an interval like 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 because it is very important to me to keep in my blood pumping. I have an intensive workout. It is mentally tough but I know that I have to do it. On Wednesday’s, I do a 35 minutes easy run. Thursday’s I do 50 minutes tempos runs. Friday’s I do 35 minutes easy runs. On Saturday’s I do VO2 Max…

Second, I exercise by doing weight lifting. When I go to the gym I usually like do a little bit gain muscles exercises because it helps me to be injure free while running. I like to workout at the same time, the upper and lower body with light weights doing many repetitions for instance 15 to 20. Since that I am not getting younger, I have to focus excersising my butt, abdominal, and triceps. I am not trying to get more muscles but instead make my body not saggy. I know many runners are skinny but look saggy. Weight lifting helps me to not have injures when I am running. It give me extra energy and make me run faster.

Third, I exercise by doing Tae Kwon Do. I have to be really care when I am in Tae Kwon Do class. The body movements are very different then anything else. Tae Kwon Do is more like short and quick movements especially, kicking for example, side kick, front kick, round ha kick, turn over kick and etc. However, I really like Tae Kwon Do class because I got a black belt in Tae Kwon Do when I was in Korea in my twenties. Tae Kwon Do also gives me full of confidence about myself.

Fourth, I also like to stretch because it is very important to my body have to be flexible after exercises. I like stretching my body more like yoga but I am not taking any yoga class. I do know how to stretch in many styles of yoga. When I am stretching I do like deep stretching so it feels like that I am relaxing. I don’t like my body muscles to become stiff especially, my legs. If my muscles are stiff, I will have problems like injures.

I became a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I started teaching a Tae Kwon Do class for children on October 2004. I am working at the Oahu club Hawaii Kai and teach Hoo’piopio, Aqua, Pilate, and Tae Kwon Do. Therefore, I feel like that I have to be a low model for my club members. As a matter of fact, if I don’t take care of my health or be careful what kind of food I eat everyday, I will become nothing. Usually, in the morning I like to have whole wheat grain cereals put in the bowl a little bit with skin milk (walnuts, almond nut, strawberry, blueberry, and banana) unfortunately, a lot of people don’t have a breakfast but so far I haven’t missed any. My mother would know all kind of information from knowledge in books on how to keep in good health, good shape and for family and herself. If my mother is not healthy then how can she raise her children and support her husband or family? Therefore, it must be habit and then it will become a routine. People can easy have a bad habit all the time like smoking, drinking, gambling but why not have good habits instead. I believe that human life is all about choice. If you don’t want to be healthy nobody can make you do it. People have to set the goal and than go for it. Think about it. What would you want to be? Do you want to happy or not?
