Pearl Harbor Bikepath 10K

Photo by Tesh Teshima. Start of Pearl Harbor Bikepath 10K on May 14, 2006

The Pearl Harbor Bike Path 10K is a scenic run sponsored by the Mid Pacific Road Runners Club each year for what seems like the beginning of time. The start is about 400 yards down the road from
Lehua Elmentary School in Pearl City, on the edge of a Navy installation. After a 400-yard sprint, it quickly turns right onto the Pearl Harbor Bike Path that is used daily by thousands of recreational runners and walkers. Immediately to the left is a very large banyan tree, that is probably the largest on the island. Most runners are so busy jockeying for position, that they often don’t notice this amazing tree. The path then goes slightly downhill for a half mile and between a water crestnut farm on the left and right of the path. It heads over a couple of short 10-foot bridges, and through the middle of a large power plant. Another half mile, and you begin to enter the Neal
Blaisdale Park for about 200 yards with a fantastic view of scenic Pearl Harbor waters on the right and historic Ford Island in the distance. At the other end of the park, you run over a rather longer bridge over a local stream. Then, down the other side and through a more commercial area for the next mile, with scattered views of Pearl Harbor again between the trees and bushes. A very short, yet steep uphill, leads you to a street intersection, where you cross to the other side and head down the path again on the outskirts of another local park with views of …..Pearl Harbor again. A left takes you briefly under the H1 overpass, and further down another 200 yards to the turnaround next to the Navy’s COMPACFLT Boat Landing………………….The return trip takes you back the same route through the same breathtaking scenery toward the finish line in the Lehua Elmentary School parking lot…………..What a Great Run in a Historic Part of the Island ! !
