Hickam Half Marathon

By: John Burns

The Inaugural Hickam Air Force Half Marathon was held for the first time on August 12, 2006. Everyone could hear the sounds of freedom in the form of Air Force jets revving up their engines. It started at 6:00am. However, this year’s entries were only for personnel who had base IDs. There were 133 finishers. The flat course started at the Hickam track near the back airport gate, went down various streets toward the Hickam beach, and continued further to the turnaround spot in front of the Mamala Bay Golf Course. Awards were presented to the top 3 finishers in the mens and womens age divisions of 18-29, 30-44, 45-54, and 55 & up. Near the completion of the course, everyone ran one full lap around the track to the finish line. The weather conditions made it a breeze with clouds and cool tradewinds. The second annual event is 11 Aug 2007.
