The Kailua Beach Run was held on July 23. This annual
race started on the southern end of Kailua Beach and headed almost
2 and a half miles to the far northern end, entirely on top of the
best sand in the world!! After a quick U-Turn around a cone and
a quick grab of water, everyone galloped back to the start. This
year was held under the course’s best running conditions,
since the time of low tide was officially listed as 6:58 (two minutes
before the race start). The sand was hard and packed…..perfect
for the barefoot racers, of which there were many. Those who wore
shoes, were able to actually keep them dry, and it was never necessary
to edge up into the deeper sand. The distance was slightly under
5 miles. What more of a perfect place on the island to run a race
entirely around incredible ocean scenery and under deep blue majestic
skies! Tesh was there, as always, to capture racers in action with
his camera, as they sprinted toward the finish line. Seconds afterwards,
many plunged directly into the ocean just a few feet away for its
cool refreshing qualities…….ahhhhhh, what a relief it
was………..Plenty of potluck food was consumed and
enjoyed by everyone after the event……………I’m
already looking forward to next year !!!!!
