The 4th Annual Mango Days 5K was held on July 30,
2006 at 630A. The race was established by Neil Voje when he read
a book about Patty Smith and her battle with cancer and love for
mangos. Kit Smith, her father was present at the race selling his
book about her life at the great breakfast at Compadres which followed
the race.
Race morning was sunny and warm. The course is one
of the many run at Ala Moana Park. The race starts with a loop around
Magic Island running around the park clockwise with a double back
by the Diamond Head concesion stand finishing across the street
from Compadres. This is a flat fast race course where setting a
PR is possible. Eating at Compadres mexican reasturant as part of
the entry fee makes this one of the best races to run on Oahu. Breakfast
includes fruits, cofee, ice tea, refried beans, eggs, enchiladas,
potatoes and cinnamon desserts. During the breafast, the unique
hand-made pottery bowls were presented to the age division winners.
