Old Pali Road 4.4 Mile Run
Review: John Burns
The Mid Pacific Road Runners Club sponsored another
great annual and
popular scenic run today. There were 48 finishers. The course
wound
its way up a no-longer used portion of the Old Pali Road. The
course
gradually got steeper and zigzagged it way to the top. Then, about
a
half mile portion descended on the other side. At the turnaround
and
halfway mark, everyone energetically ran the half mile back up
the hill,
cheering each other along the way. They then plunged in elevation
for
slightly under 2 miles down the other side to the finish line.
This is a great location to see a huge variety of
tropical plants along
the entire course................that is.....if you are not one
of the
many who are actually focused on winning the race, or placing
in their
division. Plenty of trees provide a bounty of shade. However,
running
on the old road requires caution because there are many wet areas
which
are prone to the natural cultivation of slippery moss. And there
are
other slippery hazards to encounter beneath your feet such as
soft
yellow ripened guavas, hard and round kukui nuts, an occasional
avocado,
and other miscellaneous leaves, twigs, and loose vegetation.
..............A fun and enjoyable time was had by
all...................
