The 9th annual Rosie Wall 5K was run on
Sunday morning at 7A on August 29,
2007 in
Kailua. This race
course started at the Kailua Recreation Center and was an out and back course with a small loop in the middle.
Chuck Wall holds this race in annual memory of his wife who was an avid runner in the community and massage therapist. He is a thoughtful race director. He called all runners 2 days in advance to warn of possible delays in the morning if the pali highway roadwork would last till 7A. The roadwork was done earlier and there was no delays but that is the kind a thoughtful race director we have in Kailua. He has Rosies brother hand craft glasswork as awards for the top winners and gives some randowm prizes away too. One younge lady about 10 years old won one of these prizes and it made her day. Fleet Feet gave out several $25 gift certificates to runners which was an added bonus to doing this race. Awards were given out in 5 year age divisions and are hand crafted glasses. Thae awards are what makes this race a gem.
The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) volunteer thier time to direct traffic at busy intersections. They add to the overall safety of the race while running on the road.
Race refreshments included water and powdered dounuts. Th is is one of the few races where you can sit in the bleachers and relax during the award cerimony. Chuck Wall promises something special for the 10 year anniversary race next year.
