Run Run Run in the Sun til Your're Done 5K 2007 Race Review

Review by Louis Tomsic

It was a pleasure to run this race.

The Run Run Run in the Sun til Your're Done 5K was run at 7:00A on October 20, 2007. This is a race I would do again next year because of how well it was run. The race director thought of everything. There were pleanty of volenteers from the Junior Enlisted Organization to help runners to pick up thier packets, turn around at places in the course and even have extra toilet paper for the bathrooms because the state of Hawaii had not restocked the bathroom facilities. The race was well organized. The award cerimony occured 30 minutes after the race. If you are a race director and want to know how to put on a quality event I would recommend following this format.

The race course started at Neil Blaisdeal Park first crossing over the bike path bridge in the direction of Pearl Harbor and after 25 meters did a very small loop around a grass & rock knoll. The course then preceded back to the start and ran to Leahua Street where a cone was setup to run around going back to the finish. The day was beautiful and partly overcast so it was not too hot. It was nice to see the Brinham Young University (BYU) cross country team at the start competing in this Saturday event.

The event benifits the Central Oahu Youth Service Association. There were about 100 runners in the 5K. Refreshments afterward included bottled water, different flavors of Gatoraid in bottles, Cliff Bars, Nature Valley Trail Mix Bars, Dole Peach & Apple Parfait. The top three winners recieved gift cards for $25 at Chilies, 4 movie tickets at Consolidated Theaters and other great prizes. There were also several raffles to give away prizes.

The race was the first annual but because of the great refreshments and awards it seemed like a seasoned race.
