The Mount Tantalus 10 Mile Run was run this morning at 6:30A. There were about 75 brave runners who faced the challenge of running 5 miles uphill and then turn around and run 5 miles downhill back to the finish. In the years past that I have run this race, each year the race course would go clockwise or counterclockwise around Mount Tantalus but since the Hawaii Government has not fixed the roads by the Honolulu Lookout for 2 years, the race course has changed to be an up and back course.
The morning was a nice partly cloudy day and the roads were dry. In this race it is very important to double tie your shoe laces because of the speeds that you pick up on the way back down the mountain. The Mount tantalus 10 miler is one of the hardest races to do on the island and if you are up for a challenge, I would highly recommnd this race. The race director, Beth Blackburn has been putting on this race for decades. John Simmonds, the past president of MPRRC has taken my advice to get Mountain Dew as an afterward refreshment soda which makes the award cerimony refreshements really good.
Everyone was soar after the run because of the different muscles that are worked going up and down the hill. I might be taking a break in the running on monday.
