The University of Hawaii Newman Center 5K was held on January 26, 2008 at 8A. The weather was slighly drizzling at times, windy and cool. There were about 100 participants this year. This years 5K winner was Johnathan Lyau.

The best part of this race in that is run through Manoa Valley is that almost everyone who sits through the prize giveaways usually will win something because there are nearly 50 prizes that are given away. The grand prize given away this year was a surf board and an ipod.

The prize givaways were outstanding this year and so was the after race refreshements. There was chocolate chip cookies, bananas, oranges, ice cream, pastries, granola bars and other goodies on a long table to choose from. Tesh Teshima took pictures of the event. He has been taking pictures at Hawaii races for over 10 years. This year the running room had the biggest turn out of runners with 12 participants

The prize giveaways made for a lot of happy participants. Each year is a fun time and an enjoyable experience after the race. I applaude the race organizers and wish University of Hawaii would have more races to promote fitness and health.
