Magic Island Biathlon 2007

By Louis Tomsic

The Magic Island Biathlon was January 14, 2007. The weather was beautiful and sunny.  The race starts at the Diamond Head side of Ala Moana Park, the same course as the Christmas Biathlon.

The runner does a course that is 2.5 miles around the outside of Ala Moana Park including a loop around Magic Island haning off to thier swimmer near the lifegaurd stand on the Diamond Head side of the park. The swimmer wears the timing chip and runs across the mat recording the runners time and when the swimmer is done, runs across another mat reording the swimming time. Glass cups or bowls are ussually given out as rewards for finishing top 3 in the age divisions.

This years race was treat as far as refreshments after the race. After I cheered on my swimmer which happens to be my wife, I had some veggie platers which I have never seen at a race before. A race organizer is planning at great lengths to do something very special at these races which is why I will always be going to a race that is put on by the Waikiki Swim Club. This is one of the best races in the whole state of Hawaii to do because the prizes are good, the refreshments are outstanding and after the race, you are at a nice place like Ala Moana Beach to spend a relaxing time afterward.
