Valentines
Day Biathlon Race Review 2007
By Louis Tomsic
The Valentines Day
Biathlon was
February 4, 2007.
The weather was a perfect blue sky day. The race starts at
the Diamond Head side
of Ala Moana Park, the same course as the Magic Island Biathlon.
The runner does a course that is 2.5 miles around
the outside of Ala Moana Park including a loop around Magic Island
haning off to thier swimmer near the lifegaurd stand on the Diamond
Head side of the park. The swimmer wears the timing chip and runs
across the mat recording the runners time and when the swimmer is done,
runs across another mat reording the swimming time. Glass cups or bowls
are ussually given out as rewards for finishing top 3 in the age
divisions.
There is a wonderful volunteer from the Waikiki
Swim Club that bakes the best chocolate chip cookies on the island of
Oahu. You owe it to yourself to do this race next year just to try her
cookies. They are fabulous!! The race has the best long sleeve t-shirts
on Oahu!! It is the only race that I know of where the handoff is a
kiss from your relay partner. The Valentines Day Biathlon is a relay
race that is so much fun. I have a big place in my heart for this race.
